Ode to Yesterday (By Pam)

Monday morning, time to hit “snooze”,

not quite ready for my list of “To Do’s”

Eventually it’s time to roll out of bed,

there are people to wake, dress, and get fed.

Dan jumps in the shower, Toby is up watching a cartoon,

if I let her, our Sadie would sleep until noon.

Once our breakfast is properly blessed,

and everyone is accounted for and properly dressed,

we sit at the table, and smile and chew,

and wonder how another weekend is through.

A shoe for each foot, backpacks, laptop and keys,

hugs for Dad, now buckle up please.

We get Toby to school, and Dan off to Salt Lake,

now its just me, Sadie, and dishes…but wait.

Wendy is on the phone and she has a request,

“no problem, bring em’ over, your girls are the best!”

As the afternoon passes, I stay busy, but sane

Diaper, grilled cheese sandwiches, preschool, and diaper again.

Reminders for Lynlee…”lets run to the potty,”

“squishing the kitties is fun, but still naughty”

We bring Toby home, Haley and Lynlee go,

I check the stock market…”Holy Cow, Whoa!”

We get homework done, and fix up some dinner,

We help Toby spell words, till he can spell like a winner.

“Floss, brush, rinse and flush” read the last two chapters of Junie B. Jones

Prayers, tuck-tuck, hugs and kisses, “good night little ones” now we are all on our own!

Dan and I head to the basement to frame some more walls,

This next part, is the part where my little heart stalls.

My back may have been turned, but I could still tell,

And it was confirmed when I saw Dan turn pale

That last “pop” from the nail gun made a very weird thud,

And Dans left ring finger, is now coated in blood.

Some rapid first aid quickly revealed

That Dan was okay, and boy was I thrilled

That small puncture wound could have been much much worse,

No stitches tonight, no doctor, no hearse

“I’ve had enough framing for one night” I said

we bandaged up Dan and headed for bed.

We looked in on Toby, all calm and asleep

and then checked on Sadie, and had to snap a picture to keep

We hop into bed and watch the last two episodes of Alias season 4

then Dan drifts off to sleep (and despite what people say, he still doesn’t snore)

As my thoughts wind down, my eyes shut, and I begin to snooze

I feel so incredibly blessed, there is no other life I would choose.
