Being a bit domestic... (by Pam)

I've been wanting to make myself a few new skirts with elastic waistbands for my expanding belly. As I was looking at various directions online I found instructions for making little girls tiered twirly skirts.
I found some fun fabric, and for my first attempt I decided it would be easiest to make all 3 tiers out of the same fabric. But I am feeling pretty good about the results, and think I will attempt a few more of these for Sadie.

As I was facing the daily dinner dilemma of what to make, I thought of Moms super yummy Ham Fried Rice recipe. A quick call to Mom and I was on my way.
I decided I better ask Dan if he liked Ham Fried Rice, and he responded that he did, but questioned... Isn't that usually a side dish?
It got me thinking. Growing up as one of 9 kids,  I could be wrong but it seems that dinner was frequently a "one dish meal." My kids usually don't eat side dishes well, so often I don't give them a 2nd thought.
My funeral potatoes may or may not have a veggie on the side.
My grilled cheese sandwiches, may or may not include soup,
Spaghetti may or may not include bread and salad.

Cooking is certainly not my calling in life, but I am officially recommitting to dress up dinner a bit more. (Even if I am the only one eating some of the veggies.)

We were a one-dish fam too...but you'll discover quickly if you haven't already, Jensens are a multi-dished meal people. I blame Grandma.

Thank heavens for frozen veggies and microwaves...and prepackaged salads. :)
Cute skirt, that second photo was funny cuz you can't see any feet, it looks like she's floating and footless... :)

Well look at you Mrs. Domestic. The skirt looks great and dinner looks yummy! I totally understand the one dish meal thing.

I am so impressed...I am yet to sew anything for my kids...and they're almost all grown up! I'm happy if I can get a meal on the table, side dishes are an occasional treat around here. I'm glad you are finding the time and energy to do all those little extras that make your house a home. You're doing a great job!
GO MARTHA!!! (as in Stewart). And ya know what I have discovered......as long as they get fed.....and more goes in tummies than in tupperware in the fridge - IT WORKS!! Wether it's a single dish - or a side dish as dinner!! Our favorite is BREAKFAST for DINNER!! YUMMMM!!!
