So just over a week ago I had a very long day.
A horrible tooth ache proved to be a deeply fractured tooth. Fractured in a way that the Dentist said it didn't make any sense to put money into it when it was no longer going to hold. So after banging around and taking an X-ray - he sent me to an Oral Surgeon to see if he thought it needed to come out.
Survey says.... It needs to come out, and so does the wisdom tooth behind it. He also said if I want a chewing surface on that side then now was the time to do a bone graft so in about 6 months a tooth implant could be put in.
The Wisdom tooth pried right out, but the broken tooth took some digging.
Then he used a vile of "cleaned and processed" CADAVER BONES about the size of little grape nuts to build up my jaw and allow my own bone to grow back into place over time.
At first it was a little freaky to know someones else's bone was being put in my MOUTH, but I'm at peace with my new additions now. I can't chew on that side of my mouth for a month and a half, and hopefully this week the stitches will come out. (They are driving me crazy)
Best decision I made was to NOT be put under, NOT use "laughing gas", and NOT use any narcotics for recovery.
I've learned that my body does not do well with major drugs. They make me sick and seem to slow the time it takes for me to get feeling better.
When all was said and done, I've had much worse experiences from root canal procedures.
Thank heavens for modern dentistry!
Thank you Mom for taking the kids while I was having this done all day!
And Thank you previous owner of my jaw bones, rest in peace whoever you are!

I am a lot like you and don't do so well when I am put under. I like to keep my head on straight whenever possible!
I can't imagine not being able to chew on one side for that long though, that would drive me crazy!
Hope you heal fast, glad everything went well so far.
