Election 2008 ! (by Pam)

So yesterday I took one last opportunity to make my decisions. I started with a prayer, then I sat down with a laptop and my Voter Information Packet. I researched each local vote one at a time, watched pieces of debates on-line, read statements from those running, supporters, and non-supporters. Some people were easier for me to eliminate then others.
When I was done, I felt pretty good about my choices.

I figured I'd run over early while Dan was still home, and be all done for the day. I got there about 5 mins after the polls opened (7:05) and still had to wait in line for an hour. But it made me pretty happy to see that so many people were showing up.

My votes went to both Republicans and Democrats.  I like the main platform of the Constitutionalists, but I just couldn't bring myself to support any of them locally.
The Utah Constitutional Amendments were all pretty easy this year. No major issues on the ballot.  A=Yes, B=Yes, C=Yes, D=Yes, E=Yes
The judges all got a Yes vote from me. Read over each track record and don't really have a reason to oppose any of them. (shrug, seriously what else do you do for the judges.?)

And as for the BIG RACE... Top Dog of the country, I can't say that I feel "great" about any top candidate. And I don't really feel that the alternatives to "voting for the lesser of two evils" were really any lesser evil.
When it was all said and done my vote went to John McCain and Sarah Palin.

I've decided that at this stage in my life, I'm trying to be more open and candid, and don't mind revealing where my votes went. I also don't have a problem with those of you that feel strongly about other candidates. I LOVE that I am able to decide what issues matter most to me, draw on my own personal experiences and voice my opinion.

My prayers are for our new leaders, whoever they may be, and for the wisdom to support and help those in my community and country where I can and should.

Very well put Pam. I think it's great that you did all that research. I knew my opinions of the major things, but I confess I called Brendan on my way to the polls and said, "tell me what and who I should vote for" on the ammendments and judges. I figure I can trust his opinion, right? We too have been praying for our country and our leaders a lot more in our family.

Voting for me this election was more about keeping someone out of office than putting someone in. Both candidates suck.

Pam, Thanks for sending us the link to your blog. It's nice to see the kids so well adjusted! I don't know if you know or not but we are expecting a baby any time now. We're having a boy. Matt's really excited. Not that I'm not,
I'm just miserable... fat, swollen, grouchy.. the whole 9 yards. I'd like to come down and hang out with the kids sometime... we probably won't thave the opportunity until the spring but I would still like to. Anyway, congratulations on your new life. You look really happy.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone put as much time, thought, and prayer into voting?
I had to leave a lot of blanks on my ballot because I haven't had time to research all the local candidates and propositions (other than the big ones) since our move. It bugs me when people vote blindly, or vote for someone just because they are in their party but they have never heard of the guy.
Way to go on all your research!

Way to be an American Pam! I think we all need to look at the people we are voting for and not just the party.
