Kids, Trains n Automobiles (by Dan)

Yesterday, (yesterday being Saturday, March 7th 2009) "Grandpa Howard" and I took Toby, Sadie and Collin to the model train show in Ogden.

It was a blast, Grandpa showed up here about 8:00am with Collin already loaded up and everyone hopped in the car to take the long drive North to Ogden for the "Fancy Name of the Show Here" Model Train show in Ogden!

I had a couple model trains as a kid, and thought they were pretty neat, but boy did I fall short in my model training aspirations! These train sets were amazing! They had beautifully sculpted towns and terrains that were amazingly realistic. They had rivers and mountains, buildings, peoples and cars, it was really neat!

My favorites were the Z-Scale trains which are something crazy like 1:220 scale and are very tiny! They had a couple tracks set up in suitcases to showcase the tinyness of the things. They couldn't even place the trains on the tracks without a special alignment tool because the track is about as wide as my pinky finger.

The kids loved the Lego trains, which were beyond a doubt the single largest repository of Lego madness I have ever had the opportunity to witness. Legos are seriously expensive and they were here by the billions! They had Pirate Land, Starwars Land, Lord of the Rings Land, Space Land, Sharks Eating Divers Land, Water Wheels without Water Land and just tons of other Lands all connected by a single train and all HUGE and very cool!

They had a model train setup outside the show that kids could ride on in a big circle, but none of the 3 kids wanted to ride that and Grandpa and I were a few decades beyond the weight limit so no train rides for us!

The kids also got to climb around in a real Caboose and climb all over some other trains in the "Kids Can Climb on This Stuff" section, they all had a blast!

My favorite part was in the Old Cars room, the far wall was completely mirrored off. The kids got there and were a bit confused, so I completely took advantage and told them that they could turn around if they wanted to, but I was going on into the other room. It was awesome! I did my best to appear like I went through the mirror and, Toby especially, they all fell for it! Toby kept looking for familiar things and trying to convince me that this was the same room only to have me point out little things obvious to a grown up but overlooked by kids, that made the whole room different, it was great! I also continued this by the Lego trains, it was hillarious, they had a huge mirror on one side, so while they were in awe of the train I told Toby: "Look buddy! They even have ANOTHER ROOM OF LEGO TRAINS!" He glanced and got all excited but moved on with us. Upon reaching the end of the Lego train, Toby complains "But Dad! I want to see the other one too!" Hahahahah I am completely, hopelessly evil when it comes to this stuff, I can't resist :)

Here are some pictures, they don't do it justice, but is was a blast.
