Genetics (By Pam)

So Yesterday both Sadie and I had doctor appointments. Me, for pregnancy, Sadie for a well child check up and pre-Kindergarten shots.

I’m officially in my last trimester now. Yea!

I’ve been swelling just a little bit lately especially when I spend much time on my feet, so I was anxious to see if I had any issues brewing. It was all good news for me.

Blood pressure was “great”                                                                                                                                      (I thank my Mom for this, my blood pressure is always good)

Baby is measuring right on, maybe just a little big, but normal for this stage.                                                      (Dan says if she has Hintze/Lund genetics she will be big.)

I’ve only gained 1 pound in the past month!                                                                                                               This was good news for my weight at this stage.

Then I took the glucose test that checks for diabetes, which runs in both sides of my family.                           All came back normal there too!

They did comment that my Iron is a bit low, but not bad.                                                                                         (I thank my Mom for this as well, my Iron is almost always low.)

As for Sadie, we were a bit surprised at how thorough her check up was, and could have better prepared her for a couple of things.

Her weight, height, and body mass are all prefect. Hearing and vision were good. (Whew, maybe she will escape the vision woes I thank my Dad for.)

The doctor did mention that her teeth are close together and we should seal her molars as they come in. (So far she has escaped my dental woes with good teeth, so hopefully she can maintain that too)

One thing that was interesting …In checking all her joints and bones he told us that her femur bones/joints (large leg bones) were not normal.

With her laying face down, he moved them from the hip at an angle (hard to explain) and told us it’s normal to be able to move them to about a 45 degree angle, and showed us how hers move to an 80 degree angle. When we asked what this means, he said most likely nothing for now, but that she may have bad/painful knees when she is older.  It reminded me of Mom and Jess’s knees, and Debbie’s hips. It was interesting to be aware of anyway.

I’ll save the food and nutrition discussions for another post, but bottom line I’m supposed to cut salt intake to minimize swelling, and be sure not to miss any prenatal pills (for Iron). And Sadie should be moved from 2% to 1% milk, then eventually to skim.

I feel overwhelmingly blessed to be enjoying the health we have.

YEAH! Good health is a TRUE and HUGE blessing! I am SO glad things are SO good - with ALL of you! Interesting about the whole knee thing......Grandma, Kenneth, Brendan, Me, David, Mom, LOTS of us have BAD knees......Hope this is NOT the case of Sadie's future! NOT FUN!!!

A clean bill of health is the best news ever. It sounds like your pediatrician is really thorough. I love that. Nice to know in advance what to watch for. The countdown is winding down for you. Good luck these last few months. So exciting!

It's good to hear that all is going well!
I am so jealous that you are in your 3rd trimester. I'm still creeping out of my 1st.
And, answer me this...what good is food if it can't be salty?
